Ryder 2b-A, W-6040 variety, with the pronounced die break at the Eagle’s head resembling a horn, and some scattered cuds and other evidence of significant die degradation on the reverse.  Considered to be Rarity-3 as an issue, but at least R-7 in the astonishing condition seen here.

Indeed, PCGS has graded just 3 mint state examples:  An MS60 BN, one MS62 BN, and this piece as the single and by far and away finest.

Our extensive research reveals just a couple of other apparently unslabbed high end uncs extant, including a gem in the 1980 Garrett sale, and a coin described as “MS64” in the 1996 Eliasberg auction, but that’s about it.

And this piece is all original with satiny, lustrous surfaces and considerable mint red lingering on the obverse and reverse.

Note that this coin has been verified by CAC.
