1795 Talbot Mule
MS64 BN [PCGS Gold Shield]
W-8725 variety, considered to be Rarity-4+.
One of a number of interesting 18th century Talbot mules, this Blofield Cavalry type is one of the scarcest in the series and holds special significance for your author as it was one of the very first 'better' colonials I acquired (with my father's help) back in the late 1960s.
And while this is not the same example we owned back then, it could have been, as it has similarly choice surfaces and RB color, and was actually sold at auction at about that same time.
But this one would appear at auction again about 10 years later before being squirreled away into a collection for some 40+ years before re-appearing on our list today.
Ex Stack's May 1976 sale of the Laird U. Park Collection, lot #74; earlier Stack's April 1966 sale of the Dr. Conway A. Bolt Collection, also lot #74, lot tickets for both sales included.
