1652 Oak Tree Shilling
The 1954 Davis-Graves Specimen
AU58 [PCGS Edge View]
Noe-1, Salmon 1-A, W-430 variety, IN at Left Redbook type. Considered to be Rarity-3. 71.6 grains.
In our opinion the definitive Oak Tree Shilling variety with its well balanced designed and skillful engraving, and thus always a popular selection for type.
But hardly an easy thing to find in pleasing condition, as many survivors are cleaned and impaired, and/or poorly made, unevenly struck and otherwise undesirable.
And while this one is not perfect, struck a bit off-center on the reverse, it is better than most, with lovely, original surfaces, old toning and a desirable old pedigree proving that it looks now as it did when offered 60+ years ago.
Ex Stack's April 1954 sale of the Davis-Graves Collection, lot #1.
