Maris 56-n, W-5310 variety, Camel Head type. Considered to be Rarity-1.

A lovely, boldly struck, golden brown Choice XF example traced to Bowers March 1987 sale of the Frederick B. Taylor Collection, lot #2245 where it was described as follows:

"Struck over a 1787 Connecticut copper with liberal portions of the undertype still visible, including the full date 1787 on the reverse of the New Jersey copper to the lower right of the shield.  A spectacular overstrike.

From the Homer Downing Collection; earlier in Henry Chapman's Sale of September 1931, Lot 1001."

In all, a most desirable example of an ever-popular issue.
