Newman 1-A, Breen-179, W-1390 variety, one of the famous rarities in the colonial series with perhaps 20 examples known.

Slightly larger and heavier than the common Virginia ½p, and boldly struck in proof format. This piece exhibits the diagnostic small first ‘7’ in the date and the evidence of die rust beneath the first ‘E’ in GEORGIVS and across the reverse shield seen on all genuine examples of this type, as well as the tiny die crack to the left of the date as seen on the Garrett, Roper, Picker and Ford specimens.

The coin itself is a loooooong off the market chocolate brown gem with reflective surfaces, vibrant old blue toning and no meaningful marks, spots or fingerprints (which is not always the case even on examples in very high grade holders).

In all, the nicest example we’ve ever seen and a rare opportunity for the specialist.

Note that this coin has been verified by CAC.
