Restrepo M97.20 variety, Charles IIII type. Struck at the Santa Fe de Nuevo Reino (Bogotá) mint.
Another recent Eldorado Collection sale acquisition, this was in our view the only truly original AU 18th century Colombian 8 Escudo in the offering, with pleasing yellow golden color, nice surfaces, good luster, and no problems.
So of course we jumped all over it, and then placed it on this list.
Ex Stack’s-Bowers January 2018 sale of the Eldorado Collection of Colombian and Ecuadorian Coins, lot #11240; earlier Stack’s February 1973 auction, lot #987.
