June 4, 2007: "Had a Baby"

Concept:
With such a distinctive name for this variety we really didn’t have much choice but to work ‘Baby’ into our ad copy. And while that at first seemed easy, it proved to be pretty challenging to come up with a caption that was catchy, appropriately emphasized the coin type and did NOT sound completely ridiculous.

The end result was only fair in our view, but the coin did shoot out the door like a rocket – so someone must have liked it.

Captions that didn’t make the cut:
For about 15 seconds, we considered using "C’mon baby light my fire." (which we think would have been the first Jim Morrison lyrics ever to appear in a CoinWorld ad) but were so embarrassed by this version that we couldn’t stomach sending it to CoinWorld.

Version two, "This baby is unequivocally guaranteed to sleep through the night.", was not much better and seemed like lame humor for humor’s sake. We want to be interesting and have our ads cut through the clutter of other ads in every issue, but we aren’t trying to merely entertain.

Not sure if the final version of the ad was materially better, but we thought so at the time.
