August 13, 2007: "How Can you Beat that?"

Concept:
This was a first for us, as we decided to show a coin in a slab as opposed to our normal, consistent, coin-only view.

And we did it for one reason – we thought it was the easiest way to highlight the compelling offering of a PCGS certified early large cent, in a green holder, pedigreed to what is arguably the most famous collection ever assembled.

This was also one of the more affordable coins we have ever offered in an ad, and we wanted to make sure it would be noticed. So the new format seemed like a good idea.

Captions that didn’t make the cut:
I’ve always wanted to run an ad for a copper coin with the caption "Mmmmm, chocolate." and I did consider that here.

Ultimately we decided to be literal and describe the coins attributes, though I personally like ads that force the reader to sort of ‘figure it out’.

So I’m guessing we’ll see that ‘chocolate’ line sometime down the road in another ad.
