December 1, 2008: "Huge O-pportunity"

Concept:
Once again, we hoped to find a clever and memorable way to emphasize the key attribute of the featured coin in the caption. And if our author could do so by making up a new word (or at least inserting an unexpected hyphen into a common word), all the better.

Actually, the importance of the hyphen is that it it directs the reader to pronounce ‘opportunity’ with the long O sound, thus repeating the name of the variety. At least in theory.

Captions that didn’t make the cut:
There really weren’t any.

And, in fact, as we look back over our most recent ads, it appears that the number of alternative captions we’ve had for any of them has declined steadily.

That means that either we and our contributors are getting much better at writing these ads, or we’re all getting lazier as we’re getting older.

We like to think it’s the former.
