February 2, 2009: "The First Coin"

Concept:
We always thought it was really cool that the Pillar Dollar is the first coin in the Redbook, appearing directly beneath the words "An Introduction to United States Coins", a full 23 pages before any other coin listed!

Why is the Pillar Dollar given the celebrated ‘first’ spot? Because this is very important issue – the precursor to the US Dollar and a coin which widely circulated in America and survived, as legal tender, until the amazingly late date of 1857.

And one which should be included in any collection of American coins.

In fact, we tried to reject this caption because we kept thinking we had already used it before, but a careful review of past ads (and even past rejected ads) revealed that we hadn’t.

Perhaps we had used it in an old coin description? Or maybe we just dreamed it. Whatever the case, we liked it. And so we used it in this ad.
