October 26, 2009: "Mirror Image"

Concept:
Since the obverse of the dramatic brockage error featured in this ad looks like a mirror image of the reverse, we figured we’d go all out and write a caption that itself was a mirror image. Literally.

Captions that didn’t make the cut:
We knew we were going to go with this basic ‘backward-writing’ concept, but initially considered making the entire ad (including our name, the coin description, the ad caption and the price) one giant mirror image, but quickly concluded that readers would simply assume that CoinWorld made a big mistake in the type-setting room.

Which meant that only the caption could be backward.

Once that was decided, we played around with some more elaborate verbiage, but figured that it would be too hard to decipher, and frankly unnecessary.

So we went with the simple caption to your left.
