March 8, 2010: "Pioneering and Romantic"

Concept:
There is something especially enticing about 1794 Large Cents, with their charming die work and myriad varieties seeming to embody the struggles of the early Philadelphia mint – a sentiment captured very well by the Sheldon quote in our ad.

Captions that didn’t make the cut:
We knew we were going with this quote, though making it fit in a 1/4 page ad proved to be a significant challenge and ultimately necessitated some minor editing. In fact, Sheldon’s actual quote is a bit longer as follows:

"A collection of 1794 Cents reflects much of the story of one of the most pioneering and romantic struggles in American history."

So we removed a couple of words, figuring that we retained the gist of it without doing too much harm. We also decided against using a series of dots in the quote like this . . . to indicate some skipped words, since that looked weird.

And if you hear about anyone who reads our ad and takes issue with the not-completely-accurate-quote, we would appreciate it if you would direct them to this Ad Archive page so they can see that 1) We know, 2) We did it on purpose, and 3) We’re extremely sorry.
