September 20, 2010: "A Day Over ’93"

Concept:
The key attribute of this week’s featured 1794 Large Cent is, of course, its distinctive (and rare) portrait of Miss Liberty in the style of the über-desirable 1793 issue.

Which we felt needed to be highlighted in an extremely interesting or clever way.

Captions that didn’t make the cut:
Since at $42,500 this is a very serious coin, our first instinct was to ‘get serious’ with this ad by incorporating this elegant Denis Loring quote:

“The Heads of ’93 are considered the aristocrats of the many 1794 varieties.”

But after some not-so-serious consideration, we decided a lighter caption like this might be better:

“She’s 94, but Miss Liberty doesn’t look a day over ’93.”

It seemed to us, though, that the extra explanation of the ‘She’s 94’ was already addressed in the description of the coin, allowing us to abridge the caption to the version which appears in our final ad.
