December 12, 2011: "Since Woodrow Wilson"

Concept:
In our opinion, the most intriguing attribute of this week’s featured coin (aside from the fact that is is a superb, deeply reflective, gem proof Seated Half Dollar with lovely toning) is that it came to us from a collection assembled (and I quote) "sometime between 1910 and 1930" and then remained off the market, continuously, until 2011.

An extremely long duration which my wife thought could be best expressed by identifying the President who might have been in office when this coin was put away, such as the honorable Woodrow Wilson (in the White House from 1913 to 1921).

Captions that didn’t make the cut:
Clearly we took some creative license with this caption, since William Taft, Warren G. Harding or Calvin Coolidge could conceivably have been in office during the period when this coin was collected, but given the choice, we decided that Woodrow Wilson had the most memorable name.

So that is the one we used.
