July 20, 2015: "The First Coin"

Concept:
As has been the case on this site for, well, ever, we believe that coins which are as rare, historic, desirable and, yes, expensive as this lovely, original New England Shilling should not be highlighted in ads which are frivolous. Heavens no. They should instead be treated with the august respect they rightfully deserve.

Which is why we eschewed a silly pun or an obscure TV reference this week and went straight for the weighty (and totally true) historical reference in this ad.

Captions that didn’t make the cut:
Before we settled on this serious ad, we did explore some lighter faire, including an old favorite "NE Anyone?" But while we liked the sound of that, it of course lacked the gravitas we were seeking.

It was however more serious than another previously considered option "Great coin, lousy compass." which of course wouldn’t work either.
