Betts-547 variety, considered to be Rarity-6 with perhaps 20 known in all.
With an unusual three quarter portrait of Franklin on the obverse, and an equally unusual reverse featuring a giant stylized tree being struck by lightning.
The reverse legend NON IRRITA FULMINA CURA, which Betts translated as “He cares not for the ineffectual thunderbolt.“, represents Franklin as steadfast in the face of danger.
And this is a lovely Choice Unc. example with much red remaining on the obverse and reverse.
Ex Stack’s May 2006 sale of the John Ford Collection, Part VI, lot #337.
