Breen-1069, W-9160 variety, a later restrike in gold produced at the Paris mint from copy dies. 0.69 ounces according to Breen.
An interesting and well-executed gold reproduction of the circa 1796 issue, and an item that is not often encountered in the numismatic marketplace.
Indeed, we have seen just a few through the years, several of which have been cleaned and impaired. This one is quite nice in comparison with pleasing surfaces, good color and just a few light lines to explain the grade of 63.
And while this is not a "colonial" issue per se, it is an interesting and eye-catching piece that would fit nicely with a high-end colonial set (which may explain why both the Garrett and Norweb collections each contained an example).
