Musante GW-09-P2A, Baker-48, struck at the Paris mint. Considered to be Rarity-7.

A classic early American medal commissioned for George Washington for his achievement in forcing the British to flee from Boston on March 17th, 1776.

With a portrait of Washington on the obverse, and a scene of Washington and his troops watching the British sail from Boston Harbor with the legend HOSTIBUS PRIMO FUGATIS (translated as The Enemy for the First Time Put to Flight), and BOSTONIUM RECUPERATUM XVII MARTII MDCCLXXVI (translated as Boston is Recaptured, 17 March 1776).

This an especially interesting variety struck using the obverse die which appears on the originals (designated GW-09-P1), and the reverse die with the corrected date (it originally showed as 1276 in the Roman numerals MCCLXXVI and was then corrected by inserting a D after the M to form the proper 1776).

And this is a superb, original example with lovely color, choice, lustrous surfaces and excellent eye appeal and is certainly among the finest of the 9 examples known.
