While a number of pieces in the Redbook Washington series bear this same 1783 date, this is the only one actually struck in the 1780’s (as proven by the existence of this issue as an undertype on 1780s state coppers). 

As such, this is a coin which is undeniably colonial and one which should be included in any serious early American or Washingtonia collection.
