"24 over 4 over 64"

Concept:
When we originally came up with this ad format we knew we would be under pressure to come up with a new and different caption every week.

Which would be difficult if our comments were generic and could apply to any coin. So instead we try to identify the most compelling attribute(s) of the featured coin and write captions about it which are extremely specific to that piece and could not apply to any others.

Such as this week’s effort, which refers to the overdate, and the fact that this coin has been deemed to be ‘over’ a 64 by our friends at PCGS, in what we hope is a memorable and intriguing way.

Captions that didn’t make the cut:
We knew we were going with this basic concept, but started with the less descriptive, but possibly more memorable "4 over 4 over 4".

Dave thought this was a bit too mysterious, and that a lot of our readers might not get it. I thought that if the ad was slightly cryptic it would cause people to linger over it longer and, in the process, remember it longer.

Ultimately, Dave won, which is why you see the final version of this ad to your left.
