January 23, 2012: "A Business Strike"

Concept:
As is our ad-custom, we think it is important to occasionally run a serious numismatic ad in between the silly ones. Such as this week, where we have chosen to highlight a business strike 1883 Three Cent Nickel which most people do not realize is a genuinely rare and hard to find item (until now).

Captions that didn’t make the cut:
While we were sure we were going to use this basic concept, it took some time to get the wording just right.

Our first effort was the more crisp and concise “About 30 times rarer than a Proof of this date.”, but we thought this idea needed to be explained more explicitly lest the reader have no idea what we’re talking about..

Which led us to “Surprisingly, an ’83 business strike is about 30 times rarer than a proof.", but I did not like the idea of writing the date in both the description and the caption.

So we settled on the version seen in our final ad.
