December 20, 2010: "Cameo Role"

Concept:
We thought a neat way to highlight the cameo contrast on this coin was by pulling the old "PF CAM – Cameo Role in a Movie" switcheroo.

And while technically you cannot star in a cameo role (since it is by definition just a brief appearance), we thought the logical inconsistency of this caption was a good thing, since it would be more likely to cause the reader to pause, go "Huh?" and check out the cool toning on this neat proof dime.

Captions that didn’t make the cut:
We knew we were going with this basic concept, starting with "Now making a cameo appearance." But that made it sound like this coin just now acquired the cameo look (which has an extremely bad connotation). So we ditched it.

Our next attempt was "Appearing in a cameo role.", but that was a problem too, since that implied the coin wasn’t really a CAM and might just appear to be one.

So we went with the "Starring" caption to your left.
