October 5, 2009: "Collection Plate"

Concept:
We were looking for a non-denominational, could-not-be-construed-as-offensive-under-any-circumstances, but still very clever Church-related reference for this caption, when all of a sudden, my wife shouted this one out during lunch.

And it was a near perfect fit in our opinion, since it met the stated criteria, highlighted the featured coin and referenced the fact that this piece was originally produced specifically to be contributed to a Church collection plate (of the First Presbyterian Church of Albany, New York in 1790).

And that’s not easy to accomplish in seven words.

Captions that didn’t make the cut:
Right before my wife’s suggestion we were languishing with a few less inspired ideas, including "Collection (plate) centerpiece." and "A significant addition to your collection (plate).", both of which contained hints of a good idea and some useful words, but in an order which frankly made no sense even to us.

So we quickly abandoned these and settled on the caption to your left.
