May 12, 2014: "Elephant in the Room"

Concept:
Hey, there are only so many possible Elephant-related captions out there, so it is good that there are not that many different Elephant themed coins.

But there is this one, an issue we had never, ever seen before snagging one at a recent show, and then seeing another like-graded example sell for more in a Heritage auction a week later.

And it is of course said Elephant that is the draw here, big, bold and fierce looking, and indeed the Elephant in the Room.

Captions that didn’t make the cut:
There were a couple, starting with the pedestrian "Elephantastic." Though of course that kind of caption can be used in most any ad with all sorts of words, and is thus best saved for weeks when we flat can’t think of anything else.

We also considered "An Elephant’s faithful, 100%." — Dr. Suess, which is of course a memorable quote from ‘Horton Hears a Who’ that has really very little to do with coins.

Might have been a better choice for this ad, though.
