Concept:
Whenever we see a piece of truly original, unmolested early gold we always marvel at the fact that it managed to survive as such, when so many of its numismatic brethren were dipped, cleaned, scrubbed and otherwise ruined by some ill advised owner through the years. Even more so when we see one in a pristine old holder like this stunning, gold-stickered 1802/1 Half Eagle.

An idea neatly highlighted by our guest author’s perfectly appropriate Endangered Species / Endangered Specie (money in the form of coins) super-pun.

Captions that didn’t make the cut:
There were none, though sharp-eyed readers will note that we actually used a similar (but not the same!) caption in our first ever CRO ad waaaaaay back in February of 2007. Though that one employed no pun at all.
