September 16, 2013: "Jumped Through Hooples"

Concept:
Our first-time guest author proposed what we believe is an extremely creative if slightly strained reference to influential 1970’s English rock band ‘Mott the Hoople‘ to describe this superb, well-pedigreed and almost certainly finest known example of this rare Mott Token variant.

Cations that didn’t make the cut:
The initial draft of this ad was "We jump through Hooples to find the best Motts.", which was later modified to describe this specific Mott, and not Motts in general (even though we do most certainly jump through hoops to find the best examples of all Mott variants and every other colonial issue).

And while we were sure that a significant percentage of CRO ad readers would not know who Mott the Hoople is, and would therefore find this ad utterly baffling, we decided to run it anyway since in our experience a baffling ad can generate even more interest than one that everybody ‘gets’.

Time will tell if that’s true in this instance.
