March 23, 2008: "Lt. Frank Drebin"

Concept:
Originating in a play on the word ‘bust’ (as in Capped Bust), and then taking that to the Nth degree, our author arrived at the most memorable ‘bust’ comment any of us could think of: A piece of dialogue from the movie ‘Naked Gun 2 1/2’ made famous by Leslie Nielsen’s bumbling Lt. Frank Drebin.

At the time (and in retrospect, actually) this seemed like a questionable idea, but then we decided ‘what the heck’ and went with it anyway figuring that occasionally we should do something completely off the wall.

Captions that didn’t make the cut:
The first idea was "The most popular overdate of a very popular series.", which I believe is the most conventional ad we’d ever come up with (and the reason we rejected it).

Next thing you know, we were onto the Naked Gun concept, first timidly:

"Is this some kind of bust?"

And then more overtly:

"Is this some kind of bust? (purchase this item and receive a complimentary Naked Gun 2 1/2 DVD)".

But this was awkward and hard to fit into our standard ad format, so we opted for the direct movie dialogue instead.
