January 17, 2011: "Matron of Honor"

Concept:
In an effort to highlight this neat Matron Head Cent, we concluded that we needed to find a phrase – any recognizable, regular phrase – in which the word ‘matron’ appeared, but with one caveat: It had to have a positive connotation or sound to it.

Which proved to be challenging, since most uses of the word ‘matron’ seem to be in the adjectival form with ‘-ly’ at the end, describing someone who looks like your grade school librarian.

But then, all of a sudden, my wife came up with ‘Matron of Honor’, which usually refers to a bride’s maid who is married, except in this case, when she used it to mean that this was an excellent example of this type, with good luster, choice surfaces and pleasing chocolate brown color (even if this depiction of Miss Liberty does look eerily like my grade school librarian . . .).
