May 23, 2010: "Mercur-Key!"

Concept:
What better way could there be to highlight this relatively affordable mint state example of the key to the Mercury Dime series (and one of the most famous of all 20th century coins) than to try to come up with the worst pun possible?

Exactly.

Captions that didn’t make the cut:
Our first thought was to go with some kind of serious comment about key dates, such as "Buy the keys first." But since neither Dave nor I actually subscribe to that purchasing theory (preferring instead to buy nice coins in whatever order they become available), we figured we couldn’t use that.

So we migrated to "If not now, when?", which of course referred to the nostalgic longing most all of us had to obtain one of these when we were kids.

And while we liked that one, and thought it made for a catchy tag line, we decided that, in this instance, abject silliness was better.
