January 21, 2013: "Original British Redcoat"

Concept:
Here we have a lovely, Revolutionary War era British copper basking in its nearly full, original, mint red. A Redcoat, if you will, as suggested, appropriately, by this week’s guest author all the way from jolly old England (and thus representing the 2nd ever CRO trans-Atlantic caption suggestion).

Captions that didn’t make the cut:
After seeing this idea, I started to wonder if it might be better to try a Paul Revereque "The Redcoats are coming!", but of course that created several dilemmas:

First, while that phrase is possibly what Paul Revere uttered during his famous midnight ride, most versions of that story relay it (almost certainly incorrectly) as "The British are coming!", making this caption less recognizable.

Second, we’re only selling one coin here, so it should more accurately be "The British is coming!", which of course sounds awful.

So we decided not to go there.
