Concept:
In our view, there is something especially interesting and desirable about a coin which is plated in a famous old catalog or reference book.

Especially if that book happens to be one of the true numismatic classics, is the oldest one to photographically illustrate such coins and dates from waaaaay back in 1875.

Captions that didn’t make the cut:
We briefly considered making some kind of gag about the portrait on this old Connecticut copper eerily resembling the giant-headed space aliens on the original episode of Star Trek (you know, the one in which those guys could talk without moving their lips).

But that seemed very silly, and so we went with the scholarly (no pun intended) historical caption instead.
