March 15, 2010: "RB Half Dollar"

Concept:
In our experience, even long-time numismatists and seasoned collectors get a kick out of a seeing an off-metal pattern, such as this rendition of the Liberty Seated Half Dollar design in unexpected and totally cool red brown copper.

So we figured we’d feature this coin in an ad and introduce the idea to a broader audience of people who might never have seen or heard of one before.

Captions that didn’t make the cut:
We had a couple of alternatives, including a few talking about the reverse of this coin, since it bears the odd IGWT variant "GOD OUR TRUST" above the eagle.

But we concluded that we couldn’t really focus on that, while ignoring the elephant-in-the-room-sized fact that this coin is utterly, thoroughly and completely not made of silver.

So we didn’t.
