March 4, 2013: "Spirit of ’76"

Concept:
In the entire American numismatic series, just a few coins bear this most important date: The pricey Continental Dollar, the unique Massachusetts Pine Tree Penny, the unique Janus Head Copper and the Machin’s Mills 1/2p featured in this ad, the only 1776 issue which is relatively affordable.

Making this a coin, and a date, worth highlighting, such as with our guest author’s especially ’76-oriented caption.

Captions that didn’t make the cut:
We initially went with a Key Date hook with "The Key Date in the American Series."

But while that is undeniably true in our view, it seemed a bit dry to us, so we opted for something with a little more life.

And though we have used this concept before (back in May of 2011), that ad was, of course, in Spanish. Making this version indeed a new caption eligible for use here.

And use it we did.
