July 18, 2016: "Stored in Mint Bags"

Concept:
Given the interesting story behind this fantastic, near gem 1871 Liberty Seated Dollar, we thought we should eschew our typically wacko captions and go with something serious.

And what could be more serious than a quote from numismatic legend Q. David Bowers? Nothing, as far as we know.

Especially when Mr. Bowers informs us that some examples of this date were stored in mint bags for nearly a century, where this one undoubtedly picked up its beautiful bag toning.

Captions that didn’t make the cut:
The only issue this week was trying the make this caption actually fit into the ad, since it is fairly long (by CRO ¼ page ad standards), and we also needed room to attribute it to QDB.

Which we accomplished by truncating it slightly from its original long form "Coins of this date were stored in mint bags from the 1870s until their release by the treasury in 1962-64."

Yes, that would have been better, but we can only work with the room that we have.
