April 27, 2009: "The Gold West"

Concept:
It’s pun-o-rific! (or something like that).

You see, we were trying to find some sort of Carson City or Old West concept with a gold angle that tied in neatly with this big old western gold coin when, all of a sudden, we landed on this Tales of the Old West / Tails of the Gold West switcheroo idea. Sure, it’s not very good, but it does feature two puns in a brief 5 word caption, and that’s not easy to do.

Captions that didn’t make the cut:
We started out with the unbelievably boring "Carson City’s Finest", but figured that’s probably what they call the police force out there. So that was out.

Then it was "A big gold piece of the American west" which we thought was perhaps too suggestive of a great big nugget.

Which led us finally to the old west theme and "Tales of the Gold West" before deciding, just minutes before the ad deadline, that we should substitute Tails for Tales and show the back of the coin for an extra dose of CRO cleverness.

So we did.
