June 17, 2013: "The Trail Ends Here"

Concept:
Our prolific (though recently on sabbatical) guest author found what is in our opinion a very clever way to tie in the theme of this extremely popular commemorative (the Oregon Trail) to the search for a spectacularly toned, über-gem example (i.e. being on the trail of a superb Oregon).

Captions that didn’t make the cut:
Our first attempts were centered around turning the g-o-n of Oregon into the word ‘gone’, as in "Going . . .Going . . . Oregon!". But that presented two problems:

1) It implied the pronunciation of Oregon as the incorrect Ore-a-gone, which is not how the locals say it, and (more importantly)
2) It sounded like a CRO hard sell, which is something we don’t ever want to do.

Fortunately, we didn’t have to, since our guest author came through minutes before the deadline.
