Sometimes we like to be serious in these ads, and our guest author gave us just such an opportunity with this weighty caption recognizing the historic (and numismatic) importance of our superb, lustrous and dare we say undergraded 1766 Mexican Pillar Dollar.

Captions that didn’t make the cut:
Other serious options this week included "The coin on which the U.S. Dollar was based." which we rejected for slightly awkward wording.

Followed by our guest author’s long-form submission "The Spanish 8 Reales was the world money standard for 300 years."

Which we liked best in the truncated version seen in our final ad.
