August 16, 2010: "True Blue"

Concept:
Our mission this week was to highlight the key attribute of the featured coin, which in our view was the spectacular blue toning on this delightful proof Half Cent.

And, notably, the color on this piece (unlike the color on some of the blue coppers we’ve seen in our travels) has a pleasing natural look that has been blessed by PCGS, CAC and CRO as the real McCoy. The genuine article. On the level. Totally legit. Real.

Hence our selection of the caption "True Blue."

Captions that didn’t make the cut:
Before we arrived at the eventual winning caption, it seemed like we tried either using or incorporating most every phrase known to man with the word ‘blue’ in it, including "Blue yonder.", "Blue velvet.", and no less than 14 different poems containing the line "Violets are Blue."

And we actually seriously considered using "Feeling blue?", which I personally thought was pretty good until I was reminded by our Human Resources department that feeling blue is actually a negative sentiment that could be perceived as a real downer in an ad.

So we went with the more positive version instead.
