June 8, 2009: "Virginia is for Lovers"

Concept:
Ya’ know that goofy advertising slogan the state of Virginia has been using for y-e-a-r-s? So do we, which is why we figured it was the perfect vehicle (with some minor modification) to describe this cool looking Virginia Halfpenny.

Captions that didn’t make the cut:
We knew we were going in this direction, but it took a while to figure out the right words to 1) Make it obvious we were referencing the classic VA ad slogan and 2) Make it work numismatically.

The first attempt "For Lovers of Virginias." didn’t really achieve either of those objectives. Plus it pluralized a word that isn’t often seen that way, and that looked weird if you read it too fast.

So we next tried "Virginia is for (coin) lovers.", but that failed to connect the caption to the specific coin in our ad.

Which lead us to the final version, which did everything we wanted it to do.
