June 30, 1971: "We Will Not Give You the: Shaft"

Concept:
Our goal with this ad was to separate ourselves from the unscrupulous acts of some other dealers, while leveraging the popularity of the latest Hollywood release.

As such, the SHAFT theme seemed like a perfect fit, and photographing Dave in New York in a classic Richard Roundtree pose completed the effect quite nicely in our opinion.

Captions that didn’t meet the cut:
We considered using some actual quotes from the movie, but the only lines we could find with no swear words in them were “Have a chair, John”, followed by “I don’t like your chair.”

And since we didn’t want to focus so much on chairs, we decided not to go with that idea.
