October 12, 2009: "Well Red"

Concept:
The goal this week, obviously, was to highlight the fact that the featured coin is about as red as any we’ve seen (or at least any that cost less than $24,000). Brilliant red. Original red. Well red, if you will.

And even though that doesn’t really make grammatical sense, it sounded kind of cool to us, and like the sort of thing that might strike a chord with a sophisticated collector. Theoretically.

Captions that didn’t make the cut:
We never got so far as to construct any alternative captions, though the other ideas we seriously considered were all based on this being the last year of issue of the large cent.

But just thinking about that sounded kind of boring to us, so we scrapped that idea before it ever got off the ground.
