(800) Coins-99:  7AM - 11PM ET EVERY DAY

A die struck contemporary counterfeit, this issue first surfaced in the June 1886 auction of the collection of Dr. Edward Maris (of NJ Copper fame).  Considered to be High Rarity-7 with just 4 examples known.

Uniface and charmingly crude, this issue is most readily identifiable by the inexpertly engraved (to be kind) and highly variable stars on the obverse.

Apparently (and puzzlingly) struck over a genuine Matron Head Cent of unknown date, this example is an original and pleasing medium brown and could be described as choice for this extremely rare issue.
