Noe-9, Salmom-7-Ei, W-500 variety, IN at Bottom type. Considered to be Rarity-5.
A fantastic, original example of one of the most aesthetic Oak Tree designs. Few people know that, though, since this variety is infrequently encountered in the choice condition as here.
And this is among the very finest, having been recognized as such waaaay back in 1975 in its appearance in Bowers Newport Collection sale where it was described (breathlessly) as follows:
". . . a superb Uncirculated example; a fantastic, remarkable coin which has no traces of wear and which shows every microscopic die finishing line and detail (save for some areas of light striking around the peripheries, as on other known specimens – c.f. the Noe plate coin, for example). The importance of this coin cannot be exaggerated or overemphasized."
High praise indeed for a coin graded MS62!
Ex Bowers January 1975 sale of the Newport Collection, lot #4.
