Noe-10 ‘Ghost Tree’ variety, considered to be Rarity-6 as a type but by definition unique as offered here.
This is a famous coin with a provenance dating to 1910, though admittedly it will not be for everyone.
Starting with a high grade Noe-10 Shilling, a skilled artist re-engraved the characteristically faint ‘Ghost Tree’ into a prominent Pine Tree a century or more ago, creating an ersatz unique variety interesting enough for the Norwebs to include in their front line collection.
And it looks today exactly as it did then, with choice, original color.
Ex Bowers October 1987 sale of the Norweb Collection, lot #1167 @ $1,210; earlier ex S.H. Chapman’s October 1910 sale of the Richard Lambert Collection.
