Noe 1 variety, Large Planchet. Considered to be Rarity-3.
An important coin and a lovely example of this type. This is also a famous coin, having been prominently plated on the cover of the Eliasberg catalog (alongside the 1913 Liberty Nickel and the breathtaking 1793 Liberty Cap Cent) and exhibited widely with the Eliasberg collection through the years.
The coin itself is a wonderful, original silvery-gray, lustrous, with delicate shades of teal and golden orange toning in the recessed areas.
This piece is also one of the largest on record, weighing 75.3 grains (and thus well above the standard of 72 grains), and impressively struck on an exceptionally broad flan.
Ex Bowers and Merena’s May 1996 sale of the Eliasberg Collection, Lot #7, as noted.
