Noe-11, W-760, Salmon 9-F variety, No H in MASATUSETS Redbook type.  Considered to be Rarity-4 as a variety, but quite tough as a type with a Redbook value considerably higher than the ‘regular’ issue.

And this is the undisputed finest known example of this issue, with superb, crisp detail, lovely lustrous surfaces and old silvery blue and pale golden toning on a gigantic, all but pristine planchet.

With a fantastic provenance as well, having graced some of the finest collections of Massachusetts silver coins for well over 100 years.

Ex Heritage’s January 2015 sale of the Donald G. Partrick Collection, lot #5584; earlier Stack’s January 2002 sale of the Andrew Hain Collection, lot #126 (where it sold raw and realized an epic $48,300); earlier Stack’s September 1988 sale of the Herbert Oechsner Collection, lot #944; earlier Stack’s April 1954 Davis-Graves Collection, lot #3; earlier the collection of John Haseltine (1883); earlier Chapman Brothers June 1882 sale of the Charles I Bushnell Collection, lot #162; earlier plated (as a woodblock print readily identifiable by its distinctive shape) in The Early Coins of America by Sylvester Crosby published in 1875.

Note that this coin has been verified by CAC.
