The quintessential Pine Tree type with its aesthetic and well executed design.

Examples of this type are offered frequently in grades from VF to AU, with a true mint state piece seen once a year or so. But the great majority of these have been cleaned or abused during their long lives, and finding an original example – like this one – is a tremendous challenge.

Some time ago we offered a pleasing, original Noe 1 in a PCGS XF40 green label holder which by today’s standards might be called AU. That piece sold quickly from our site at $13,500, and recently traded again at $15,000 at the ANA show.

In comparison, this piece exhibits perhaps 5 points more wear, is just as original (and a bit lighter in color than is suggested by our photo) and displays some lovely, subtle toning in the devices absent on the other.

In all, a choice piece which would make an excellent addition to any serious collection of early American coins.
