Breen 115 variety, Short Ribbons, Rosette after date. Struck in Bath metal.

An original uncirculated example with a significant amount of original golden luster, albeit mottled on the reverse.

As an aside, most Rosa Americana coins which appear on the market are a uniform dark brown in color. For reasons known only to them, PCGS does not differentiate between Rosas retaining original color and those that do not as they do with RD and RB copper.

In our view, examples possessing original color are more desireable and appealing and we specifically seek them out.

Ex-Stack’s May 2005 sale of the John J. Ford collection, Part IX, lot #114. Earlier Henry Chapman’s sale of June 30, 1911, lot#527.
