Crosby VIII-26, Freidus 3.3-D, W-8285 variety, considered to be Rarity-7. 132.1 grains.

An unusually sharp, totally original, golden brown Higley with the boldest date we have ever seen on any coin in this series.

And while this one is unusually well made for the issue, it does exhibit a series of striations apparently due to some pre-striking planchet adjustments which are not too distracting for an issue which never comes perfect and always requires a compromise (or two, or three, or ten . . .).

Ex Heritage’s January 2015 sale of the Donald G. Patrick Collection, lot #5636; earlier Stack’s December 1983 sale of the John L. Roper Collection, lot #153; earlier Stack’s June 1973 sale of the Virgil M. Brand Collection, lot #831.
