Nelson-1 variety, with the incredibly distinctive and gigantic (ironically) ‘Infant Head’. Estimated by us to be low Rarity-7.
Of the handful of these we’ve seen, we’d rank this one third best behind a high grade piece permanently impounded in the museum at Colonial Williamsburg, and an AU which last sold at auction in 1995. The rest were corroded, or had verdigris, including the well worn example in the comprehensive Ford collection and another very rough piece that somehow slipped into a holder.
This one might be about the best you can get, with nice original surfaces, choice chocolate brown color and a price that seems like a pretty good value for a coin so rare.
